Greetings Exemplification of Charity-Unity-Fraternity (E of CUF) Teams & all in Saskatchewan!
Just a few comments –
I think back over the past few years & it has been quite a transition regarding: Ceremonials!
Think about it……we were introduced to the new E of CUF ceremonial. Anytime there is ‘change’ some, particularly us ‘old timers’ (me), weren’t overly receptive to the new Degree.
COVID hit & Supreme provided the ability/opportunity to become a full-fledged Knight via video. Under PSD Joe Riffel’s direction & support, we put together a Sask-made video (Aug/21) of the E of CUF. Doing this offered some familiarity of presenters to Councils recruiting new members in this way (the videos can still be used, by the way, however, in-person E’s of CUF are much preferred & more the norm these days).
Today, we embrace the new E of CUF. The Lessons are delivered, maybe not as ‘in your face’ as in the former Admission, Formation & Knighthood Degrees, but they bring the Lessons to our candidates. Now, in 30 – 40 minutes the ceremonial is complete – candidates, and members, have their pins & rosaries. Their families, friends & Parishioners are welcome to view the proceedings. The Secret’s out – no Secrets exist in the Knights of Columbus!
Yes, I’ve grown to like the new Degree (I admit it). There is no requirement or need to present by memory. Areas may continue to have Teams conduct the Degrees (as done in Regina & Saskatoon), however, the reality is – each Council/District could put together a Team’ to perform an exemplification. The script is available & should be followed. Prepare for your role so that the presentation is clear & fluid. Dress to match the dignity of the Lessons & the occasion.
Talk to Father! He should be the first contact when planning an E of CUF. Inquire if you can use the Church, maybe after a Mass & invite him to participate in the Degree–opening & closing prayers. It’s noted in the Degree – Knights support for our Priests! Let’s continually show him that we mean it!
Finally, as we near the end of this Columbian year & my time as State Ceremonials Director, let us make an effort to reach our membership goal. We can all do a little more. I note from SMD Dan that we’re only 15 members away this morning. That could be done in one or two, or….exemplifications.
Less than 5 minutes for online registry. It is within our reach!
I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge SD Larry Packet. In addition to his many responsibilities & the many calls for his time/attention, he has made attending exemplifications a ‘must do’ as much as possible. Hosting Council’s notice that he appreciates & sees the efforts they are making to bring men to the Order. The attendance of an SD at ‘their place’ is not lost on the members or Council. Thank you, SD Larry!
I wish to congratulate SD elect Marte & his board, program directors & DDs in the coming year. Wishing you much success! We’ll keep in touch.
