Refugee Funds Appeal for Dilshad, Ruby and Abneer
Let’s sponsor a Refugee family currently living without a future in Malaysia to come to Canada!
Dilshad was a permanent city servant in a district of Pakistan. He is a Christian and has also been serving in his community doing social work, considering it a part of his ministry to God.
On March 9, 2013, in the city of Lahore, thickly populated and the second largest city of Pakistan, a heartbreaking incident happened in the Christian community. More than 200 houses were attacked and burned by an angry mob of Muslim fundamentalists. Dilshad went to the aid of his fellow believers who had experienced this traumatic event.
Shortly after this, on July 31st, Muslim extremists made another crucial attack on two other Christian communities, and Dilshad also went to help these persecuted Christians. Even though some troublemakers took exception to his act of Christian service, he continued with his ministry of helping his fellow believers.
However, while returning home from Lahore his car was attacked and hit with a gunshot. By the grace of God, they were not injured, but then the unknown, harassing phone calls began. As the situation became worse, he moved his family to another city and hid in the home of his in-laws, but the situation continued to worsen. He then moved to his sister’s home in the city of Jellum.
On March 12, 2013, he took part in a protest rally for the Christian community of Lahore. A Muslim man took exception to this rally and registered a complaint to the police. As a result, the police began arresting Christians, and the people of that community locked their homes and fled.
It was at that point that with consultation and the support of friends, he got a visa for Malaysia. Due to the scarcity of his financial resources, he could not afford to bring his wife and son with him, but back in Pakistan, they were threatened continuously by the extremists and militants. Ruby went to the police for protection but remained without help. She then went to court, but still could not get any protection. Finally realizing that there was no safe place for them, they also had to leave Pakistan and join Dilshad in Malaysia.
They have now been in Malaysia for almost 10 years. Because Malaysia is a mainly Muslim country, they have also experienced many difficulties because they are Christians. One of them occurred while trying to buy a small cake for a friend for a celebration. While in the shop, police questioned him, and with no provocation, took his wallet and removed his hard-earned cash (refugees cannot legally work so take odd jobs “under the table” to feed their families).
This is a family with whom CAPC has communicated for the past couple of years, and from time to time gives grocery money. They are concerned that there is no future for their son, who is now 17 years of age.
We have now found a partnership with a Sponsorship Agreement Holder who has generously given us spots for this family to proceed with the application process to bring them to Canada.
Hope is disappearing, give them hope.
