Columbus Park Monument
Columbus Park Monument was an idea conceived by GK of Resurrection Council # 13214 to construct a monument at Columbus Park to coincide with the province’s centennial in 2005
For years Columbus Park was maintained by members of the Knights from Regina Councils (president & park supervisor, Wayne Matt – 10+ yrs)
In the slideshow above find the picture showing the four flagpoles and improved monument base… This was the latest effort led by Sir Knight Tony Gartner in Regina. As you scroll through the slideshow you will see the group photo taken to commemorate Canada’s 150th birthday in 1997, showing all of the work done to create a fantastic display of Knights contributions to their community. Scroll further through the slideshow and you will see a close-up of the plaque mounted on the face of the four-sided monument.
Not one to sit idly by, in 2024 Sir Knight Tony Gartner prepared the monument for Canada Day, by organizing yet another work party to complete maintenance around the monument, and purchased four new flags to hoist onto the poles.
This is an incredibe job well-done, and all Brother Knights want to extend their greatest appreciation and thanks to the ongoing efforts of time and resources that many have made, and recognize a few noteworthy Brothers (who are at the “tip of the spear” for many efforts across Saskatchewan):
Tony Gartner, Paul & Rose Ponak, Gordon & Audrey Stopanski, & Wayne Rutten.
From all of your Brother Knights – “Thank You” for helping the Knights of Colubus show your community that we are a force for good, and showing the strong Catholic character that defines our Fraternity.
What is even more noteworthy, is that management of Columbus Park was turned over to Baseball Regina in 2019, yet still receives ongoing investment of both time and money — showing the commitment of the Knights of Columbus in a lasting and significant way to all those who enjoy Columbus Park and its sport facilities.
Vivat Jesus, Gentlemen!
