State Membership Director’s Message for August 2021

Brother Knights and Brothers in Christ:

Please, speak to your Councils and emphasize the need to recruit as this is the heart of our order. If we do not have members filling in for the lost Brothers, we will certainly collapse and then who will help our Churches and our Parishes maintain a Holy/Christian and Family-oriented environment? Who would help our Priests and who will set an example for our Families and Friends? Who will do our charitable good deeds? Who will miss those warm fuzzy feelings we get when someone says, “Thank you so much, we can eat today or sleep on a bed?”; We will, the Knights of Columbus.
This is not a practice run, this is real and please consider this request as urgent and of the highest priority.

The State Membership Team wishes all of you health and happiness for the 2021/2022 Columbian year. Our membership goal this year is 325 new members, but a real target of 354 members. We do not have a net/net this year, so we only look at the total of new members signed up.

We should promote the ONLINE membership as it is easier and better for the new members. We can still do our in-person exemplifications and Form 100’s, but online is faster and easier and no paper is required.
Attached to this email are several helpful attachments for you and your Council to help you with your Drives and helps you to better understand the onboarding online process. All of this can be found on the websites: as well as, as well.

Brothers, our recruitment pace this year has been in “Bull Low” and we have to really have a recruitment plan. If we don’t have a plan, then we are planning to fail and we Knights, do not fail.
Think of recruitment as one of your “must-do” programs. Everyone can participate. The new incentives will be posted soon and the biggest of these will be in the next few months so, start now. Even though they are not posted, you will still be part of these incentives.

Last year, we had 41 Brother Knights recruit new brothers (Our membership in Saskatchewan is over 10,000 so we should be doing better) and we have 131 members online waiting to join Councils. We have to get them busy in your Church, Community, and Councils. They could be your next executive members, so call them and get them into your Council if they choose. If they do not want to, at this time, let me or Abel know and we will take care of this and clean up your prospect tab.

Here are some of the resources that you should have on hand as well as a firm knowledge of where to find it online. In addition, you should have the ability to instruct them how to run and conduct Church Drives at your Councils and also how to use these materials:

This section contains valuable information for success in increasing membership while at the same time, allowing new members to be a part of the faith and sound principles that unite all members of the Knights of Columbus.

Recruiting new members is essential to the continued growth and well-being of your council and the Order. Offering a man membership in the Knights of Columbus allows him to improve his own life and his community. Membership also allows him to experience the fraternal bond that Knights share while growing closer to his family and his faith.

For your council’s recruiting efforts to succeed, you need to devise a plan of action and follow through on it. The “Action Steps” and “Support Materials” link to the right will lead you to strategies that your council can implement to execute a successful recruitment campaign and give you a view of the variety of materials available to you.

Use these ideas and materials: to help your recruitment efforts, to keep our Order growing and strong, and to give every qualified man the opportunity to become a Knight of Columbus.

Action Steps

This page is your guide to having a successful recruitment program in your council. The suggestions in the links below are proven winners. You should decide which ones offer the best opportunities for success in your council. These strategies are easy to organize and implement. If you follow all the steps described, you’ll be successful.

Review the programs outlined, take the steps to get organized, implement your program and follow through on it. Please click on the title of the strategy to view the Web page for each, and the “PDF” option to open a PDF file that you can print and distribute among your council members.

Remember, there are a lot of qualified Catholic men just wanting to be asked to join. Now is the time to take your first steps toward offering these men membership in the Knights of Columbus.

Special Note: Use your District Deputies, Field Agents and State Membership Team as extensions of your Council Teams to plan these Recruiting events. Also, refer to your Strategic Playbook for additional recruiting opportunities and recruitment Teams that can assist in other Church Drives that the State Team cannot be at.

Remember what worked as a standard before needs to be more diverse in how we engage future new Members, whether it be Activity Drives, Program Drives, Community Drives, Church Drives, etc… you have to be creative and maybe even design Council-Specific Material like Posters, Brochures, Recruitment cards to engage the non-member to join us! Invite your Community to help in all your events. Your next member just has to see the fun in working together with the Knights.

Do not be afraid to go to beaches and campsites or big venue stadiums/events to place cards in windows or maybe even a simple letter to men by sending a written letter to invite friends colleagues or neighbours to join. Use your contacts on your Phone. This has worked elsewhere, so it should work well here, also.

Good luck Brother Knights and if I can be of service or able to attend your Church drives, I will try to be there. Let me know your dates and I will make every effort to attend. Let Brother Abel know as well as he is in the North and much closer to that area than I am.
Thank you and God Bless
