In Support of Life
Brother Knights,
Hats off to the Knights of Columbus in Saskatchewan that made the ”IN SUPPORT OF LIFE” evening in Saskatoon a huge success. What a terrific evening spent with great friends, good food and such a worthy cause. To all that attended, the organizers and all the other agencies involved…..We are making an impact on society. To the young lady who addressed the crowd, you are loved, strong, worth it, and beautiful—such a great testimony from a brilliant soul that Jesus loves. Anne-Marie Hughes gave a terrific introduction and heartwarming presentation, thank you. Dee, my dear friend, from the Saskatoon Pregnancy Options Centre, has no idea the beauty she brings to life, her written address touched my heart as it did for many others in attendance.
A LIT CANDLE
John 1: 1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made, without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome.
She found herself in a room, a room with furniture, with things strewn across the floor, and the darkness permeating every corner. She tried to find her way across the room to find a way out, but she tripped over a basket, stumbling to her knees. She tried to stand but the darkness made it difficult to see what was ahead, afraid she would stumble again she sat on the floor, weeping.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a tiny flicker of light, just light enough for her eyes to follow, providing shadows of outlines of things that were in her way. The light kept steady, continually shining, her eyes were drawn to its warmth, and she couldn’t take her eyes off it.
After a time, she wiped the tears from her cheeks and slowly rose to her feet, keeping her arms out in front to try and feel her way around the furniture that seemed to be there just to cause her to fall.
She put one foot forward and crept bit by bit towards it. After a while she saw the soft glow reflected on her hand stretched out towards her, she inched her arm out towards it and felt it grasp her, guiding her towards the light. She let out a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding on to, and took hold of the candle, lifting it to see her way, out of the darkness into the light.
At Saskatoon Pregnancy Options and Support Centre, we carry the light and allow it to shine who are stumbling around for direction.
The light shines through appointments with young girls wrestling with their pregnancy decision, listening to information, and being given decision-making tools.
Shining through phone calls to new immigrants arriving pregnant, with no support.
Shining through text conversations with high school students too afraid to talk with anyone on the phone.
Shining through test appointments with anxious clients waiting to find out if their lives will change forever.
Shining through conversations as women realize, they can receive from a previous abortion.
We are on the ground with women, men, and children every day, who deserve to have the light of Jesus shining into their lives.
We are responsible for carrying that light, me, you, your table guests, and your families.
Here is the message we can bring to them, summed up in,
Peter: 9 – 10: But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praise of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
As you give tonight, you enable the light to keep shining, Without you playing your part, more will stumble around in the dark unable to find the light shining for them.
We appreciate every person who supports our work, whether it be in prayer, volunteering or donating. All add light to make it shine brighter.
Those of you who were in this room last year added your light to ours, which directly impacted many lives.
