During my remarks to the assembled, at the recently held 2019 State Knights of Columbus Convention, I briefly discussed Bill C-418 as a Bill meant to protect the Freedom of conscience for Doctors in Canada. In order for one to gain information on this Bill and the type of action one can take, I referred you to go to Campaign Life site and pull up “help us pass the freedom of conscience protection act”. The first hour of debate in the House of Commons is scheduled for May 29, 2019.
The following is a copy of a letter I would encourage each Knight of Columbus member to sign. Members are encouraged, also, to have family members and others from their community and Parish to as well sign the letter. Once signed, simply send it in an envelope, no postage necessary, with your name and home address on the envelope to:

Dear Minister Lametti:
I would like to draw your attention to Private Members Bill C-418, the Protection of Freedom of Conscience Act because l believe it deserves your consideration and support.
Bill C-418 amends the Criminal Code to make it an offense to intimidate a medical practitioner, nurse practitioner, pharmacist or any other health care professional for compelling them to take part, directly or indirectly, in the provision of medical assistance in dying. It also makes it an offense to dismiss from employment or to refuse to employ a medical practitioner, nurse practitioner, pharmacist or any other health care professional tor the reason only that they refuse to take part directly or indirectly, in the provision of medical assistance in dying.
I believe it’s time to stand up for doctors and health care providers who aren’t willing to leave their core ethics behind when they’re at a patient’s bedside. The protection of conscience rights for medical professionals is part of protecting the fundamental freedom of conscience and religion guaranteed to all Canadians in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
